Language experience and authentic writing

Students who learn that they can use reading and writing to investigate areas of interest, share their ideas, thoughts and feelings, or interact with new people understand that the primary purpose of literacy is communication. The language experience approach is a way of working on reading and writing which draws on a student’s own language and experiences and uses the spoken word as a basis for reading and writing.

After the language experience webinar, participants reflected on the language experience approach and the importance of building background knowledge as key components in supporting students in their growth as readers and writers.
